Standing Their Ground
October 2008 From Print Professional

1. The Defending Champions Midlothian, Texas-based Ennis has much to celebrate—perhaps most importantly its repeated procurement of the winning spot in Print Professional’s top 100 manufacturers list. The company attributes its success to product expansion and national branding efforts. Acquisitions, in particular, give the supplier prime positioning to accomplish such feats. Most recently, Trade Envelopes, Carol Stream, Ill., Phoenix-based B&D Litho of Arizona and Skyline Business Forms, Denver, have been added to the Ennis catalog. “Since the acquisition, we have expanded Trade Envelopes’ envelope conversion capabilities. How the Tough Get Going
October 2007 From Print Professional
1. Winner and Still Champion, Ennis Although not wishing to divulge specific acquisition targets at this time, the Ennis corporate team, headquartered in Midlothian, Texas, is continuing its strategy of acquiring companies that offer complimentary products to its existing line as, well as companies that offer products that could be sold through the existing distributor customer base. The strategy is obviously working, as the company again claims the top spot in Print Professional’s top 100 manufacturers ranking. And, while some in the industry fear the larger consolidators are creating pricing pressures that will ultimately commoditize products and services, Keith Walters, president and

Leaders of the Pack
October 2006 From Print Professional
Onward and Upward for Ennis From a small, rural company serving the cotton industry to a complete printed products manufacturer with 46 production facilities, Midlothian, Texas-based Ennis has been dedicated to serving the wholesale printing industry for 96 years. The company reported more than $559 million in sales for its last fiscal year. Although that figure represents a decrease from the previous year’s $582 million, Ennis still captured the top spot in BFL&S’ manufacturers ranking for the second year in a row. At the heart of the company’s success is a strategic plan based on growth through acquisitions that fit Ennis’ existing business

Trust in Commercial Printing
January 2006 From Print Professional
Margins are high and the future is bright for this market niche MOST DISTRIBUTORS KNOW commercial printing is not the typical sale. It involves greater interaction with manufacturers and end-users. Most orders are not simple reorders of the exact same product. There are a lot of colors and shapes and innovative designs and, for some distributors, that is a lot of work compared to a basic form sale. But, for those wondering whether or not commercial printing is worth the effort, a pep talk from John Andersen, sales manager for Admore, a division of Ennis, Macomb, Mich., just might change things. To him, commercial

The Top Five Continue to Thrive
October 2005 From Print Professional
A proactive approach to marketplace changes proves profitable for suppliers There are no big surprises at the top of the BFL&S Top 100 Supplier listing this year. Except for a bit of order shuffling, the five companies tßhat have dominated the rankings for the past few years—Ennis, Quality Park, TST/Impreso, Western States Envelopes & Labels and Champion Industries—continue to do so. And, it is traditional products, including envelopes, forms, tags/labels, commercial printing and direct mail, that account for the bulk of the sales that these powerhouses are posting. Principle officers for the companies, however, stressed that it is product line diversification, acquisitions, ongoing
