Three Companies, One New Name

Arthur Blank & Co., American Bank Note Company and Keystone Plastics of Canada, three subsidiaries of the worldwide ABnote Group, are uniting under a new brand, ABnote North America.

With a corporate history dating back to 1795, the new ABnote North America will continue to provide highly secure printed products and related services. ABnote North America brings together world class secure printing and services companies focused on providing North America with: plastic commercial cards, financial cards, secure access cards, identification cards, secure documents, and related secure personalization, warehousing, distribution and fulfillment services.

Chief executive officer Joe Caffarela will lead the newly named venture. He said, “Combining the three units will create a secure printing and services company with un-matched capability and with incredible potential. It provides customers with one-stop shopping for their secure cards and documents as well as complimentary personalization, fulfillment, warehousing, and distribution services. Integrating the businesses will provide increased opportunities to deliver value to our customers, better leverage our manufacturing and technological expertise and enable us to deliver even more new and innovative products.”

While the Arthur Blank & Co., American Bank Note Company and Keystone names will remain for an interim period, the brands will be phased out as marketing is transitioned over to the new brand.

PIA Welcomes New CPSC Chair

Headquartered in Sewickley, Pa., Printing Industries of America (PIA) has welcomed Inez Tenenbaum as chair of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

PIA commended the Obama Administration and the U.S. Senate on the confirmation of Tenenbaum’s appointment. Tenenbaum is the former state superintendent of schools in South Carolina.

PIA encouraged a swift transition in order for the new CPSC team to continue to improve safety and protect children.

“We appreciate the CPSC’s ongoing examination of ordinary books and other printed material as well as the agency’s intent to issue further guidance on how the CPSIA will or will not apply to these products,” said Lisbeth Lyons, PIA’s vice president of government affairs. “Printing Industries believes the test data submitted by the printing and publishing industries fully supports our case that these products are safe and viable for children. We urge the new CPSC leadership to issue a formal determination that ordinary books and other printed material will never be found to contain lead near the CPSIA lead limits.”

Lyons added, “Printing Industries recognizes the CPSC’s acknowledgement that the new law’s overly-broad reach is causing unintended harm to consumers, printers, and publishers. We urge the new chairwoman and her team to promptly exercise their authority to fix the flaws in the CPSIA for both consumers and business.”

Paris Business Products Upgrades DocuGard Line

The Westampton, New Jersey-based Paris Business Products upgraded its line of DocuGard security papers and business checks. New security features have been added to every product in addition to creating three new security paper items.

Due to increased market demand for security papers and business checks, Paris has established three distinct security lines to help customers choose the best products for their applications. These lines are medical, multi-purpose and business checks. Within each line, customers may also pick the level of security they require. This gives businesses the advantage of choosing exactly the type of document and level of security needed for their specific application.

“The DocuGard line of security products continues to grow due to increased visibility in the marketplace and the need for more security in every part of business. The addition of three new items to this already successful line presents selling opportunities to our customers in practically every segment of the business community. Based on the growth we have seen beginning in the medical field, we expect DocuGard to continue its growth as the most comprehensive document security and business check line available,” stated CEO Gerry Toscani.

New Brochure Features Athletes

Norcross, Georgia-based Unisource Worldwide, Inc., has partnered with the Lakeshore Foundation—an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site located in Birmingham, Ala.—to showcase paralympic athletes.

“A few Unisource team members made the three-hour trek from Unisource’s headquarters outside of Atlanta to the Lakeshore Foundation, and had the chance to meet some of these incredible Paralympic athletes. To them, they are just ordinary people doing ordinary things,” said Ed Farley, senior vice president of marketing and communications for Unisource. “But to us, they are extraordinary athletes accomplishing extraordinary feats of courage.”

The partnership includes the production of a brochure featuring Unisource’s Starbrite Opaque paper—a favorite of designers and printers. The publication was deemed the perfect vehicle to help share the stories of the paralympic athletes who train at the Lakeshore Foundation and who are stars in their own right. As readers turn each page of the high impact, creatively designed brochure, they will explore the journeys of athletes with undeniable winning attitudes who, each day, overcome some of life’s most difficult obstacles.

And with the introduction of the new Starbrite Opaque brochure, Unisource also hopes to inspire others to join in and support this noteworthy cause.
